Air Cooled Engines 101

Course Description

A “from the ground up” approach to residential single- and two-cylinder air cooled engines commonly used in home standby generators. This class will be a great introduction for rookie techs who have little to no engine experience at all, all the way up to seasoned techs looking for a refresher.

In this class, we will discuss breaking down parts used in the engine one at a time, common failure points found in the Kohler, Generac, Cummins, and Briggs & Stratton engines, and discuss some diagnostic procedures. Once classroom discussions are complete, each student will tear down a complete engine and reassemble it on a bench. We will end class with live troubleshooting on intentionally bugged machines that simulate real custom complaints you’d come across in the field as a tech.
