Introduction to Load Banking

Course Description

This is a hybrid classroom / lab experience with live hands on equipment.

Since most of the generators we service tend to be stationary, load banking is our “road test.” This class is designed for technicians, leadership, non-technical staff and end users who wish to better understand and learn the load banking process used in testing generators. Load banking in itself has great value for more than just compliance testing, such as diagnostics, preventative maintenance, equipment repair verification, and operational tuning of the generators governor and voltage regulation system when used properly.

This is a 2-day, 8 hour per day course taught in English. Class is limited to 10 students.

Learning Outcomes

After completion of this class, students will be able to:

  • Comfortably discuss, understand, and explain the load banking process.
  • Properly connect a load bank to a customer’s genset.
  • Perform load bank testing on live equipment
  • Learn how to employ load banks for more than just NFPA required intervals.
  • Secure an area needed during testing to ensure public safety.
  • Be able to fill out required documentation for the testing process, plus look at a variety of other parameters to locate issues before they become a problem.
